Wimax: A Wireless Broadband Technology

Wireless Broadband has become common technology nowadays. Because of wireless broadband, we can access internet easier in a place where wireless broadband is set such as cafe, garden, and other public places. The speed of wireless broadband is as good as wired broadband such as ADSL or cable modem. The coverage area is about 50 km (30 miles) from the tower. Another popular term of wireless internet broadband is WiFi. There are so many wireless broadband providers such as http://www.broadbandexpert.com.au/ that has many wireless broadband plans that you can choose.

Talking about broadband technologies, WiMax is one of them. It is shorthand for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. WiMax has high speed and wide coverage area. Current speed of WiMax for downlink is 144 Mbits/s and for uplink is 35 Mbits/s. The potential services that can get benefits of WiMax are (from Wikipedia)

Providing portable mobile broadband connectivity across cities and countries through a variety of devices.
Providing a wireless alternative to cable and DSL for “last mile” broadband access.
Providing data, telecommunications (VoIP) and IPTV services (triple play).
Providing a source of Internet connectivity as part of a business continuity plan. That is, if a business has both a fixed and a wireless Internet connection, especially from unrelated providers, it is less likely to be affected by the same service outage.
Providing a network to facilitate machine to machine communications, such as for Smart Metering.

The power of WiMax can be considerable option to replace GSM and CDMA technologies. In my country, WiMax is in progress to be implemented.

Finally, I was approved by Yahoo Meme to use and try their services. If you want an account at Yahoo Meme, you just leave your email there. Yahoo Meme team will send you an email to enable you to use it. As I said in previous post, I will try to cover all interesting features of Yahoo Meme in this post.

Yahoo Meme, A New Microblogging Website

Yahoo! has announced a new microblogging website called Yahoo Meme. It can be considered as a Twitter clone but with more features such as image, video and audio sharing. Yahoo Meme is still closed for registration but you can leave your email there to get the account. However, I’m still in registration process and still not be approved. I’ll review another features if I successfully be registered.

Blizzard officially announced the new expansion pack of World of Warcraft : Cataclysm. Some new features are included such as

1. Two New Playable Races:
Adventure as one of two new races–the cursed worgen with the Alliance or the resourceful goblins with the Horde.

New PS3 Slim

New PS3 slim will be launched. Like the prior consoles, Sony will also launch its slim version of PS3. It is not rumour anymore. The device is slimmer and smaller than before. It has 120 GB hard drive and the price is cheaper, $299. It supports same features as the current PS3 and no backwards compatibility with PS2 games. It will be available on September 1st.
