Computer Memory: DDR2 or DDR3?

If you have computer or laptop, you must have heard about computer memory DDR2 or DDR3. We will take a look at the differences between them. DDR2 stands for “double data rate SDRAM”. It supersedes the original DDR SDRAM. DDR2 can only be used in motherboard that support it. It can’t work in DDR or DDR3 equipped motherboards and vice versa. How about the speed? with a memory clock frequency of 100 MHz, DDR2 gives a maximum transfer rate of 3200 MB/s.

How about DDR3? DDR3 is double-data-rate three SDRAM. The main characteristic of DDR3 are a high bandwidth interface and the ability to transfer at twice the data rate. DDR3 also provides a reduction in power consumption of 30% compared to DDR2. The next version of computer memory is DDR4 .
