How to Set Default Search Engine and Speed Dial on Opera

Hello everybody,

In this post, I’m gonna share tips how to set your default search engine for Opera browser. If you open the speed dial page, the default search engine is Bing. But you can set it to another search engine like Google. How to do it? Follow my steps

1. Choose Manage Search Engine

Open your speed dial page on Opera and choose the search engine icon, then click Manage Search Engine

2. Choose a Search Engine

In this example, I show you how to set google for default search engine. First, choose Google search engine and then click Edit

3. Click Details and Check the Checkboxes

Yay, we almost finished. First, click Details and check both of options like image below. Then click OK

Yes, we finished guys. When you open your speed dial again, you will see that Google has been set as default search engine. Feel free to ask me if you have any problem. So, what do you think about this tips?

Finally, Opera 11 has been arrived. We can now try some new features of this browser. What are they?

Perform many common browser actions with a quick flick of your mouse. Holding down the right mouse button on a web page now shows a visual guide that indicates how to perform the available gestures.

4. Extensions

It is simple to extend Opera’s functionality by visiting our extensions catalog. Some extensions create a button you can click or have menus, while others just work in the background.

5. Mail Panel

When using Opera’s built-in mail client, you now can now drag accounts and mail items where you want them. The mail panel can also hide when you are not viewing a mail tab.

As you may know that Opera 10 has launched its beta 2 version. Some improvements have been announced such as a fresh look and feel, and enhanced speed and performance. Some bug fixes and polished skin elements are included. For user interface, Opera 10 beta 2 has added some features like

Warning and advice about why dictionaries.xml file sometimes is missing from Auto update
A “Synchronize Opera” button in the Speed Dial page
Tab icons (inverted) for panels viewed as tabs
An Open Folder menu item to the file browse control

Opera 10 Beta is Available

Yay, one of great browser on earth, Opera, has a new version. It is Opera 10. Currently, the status of development is still beta but it already covers most of new features. I will brief some new features of Opera 10. Here is the list

1. Acid Test
One of my favorite test for browser is Acid Test. Lets see how Opera can handle the most difficult Acid Test 3. The result is awesome, 100/100. As far as I know, only Opera 10 and Safari 4 which succeed in Acid Test 3.

2. Opera Turbo
The main new features of Opera 10. Wow, it sounds like turbo of car . This feature enable you to browse faster even when you have slow internet connection speed. From its website, compression technology is used to build Opera Turbo technology. I have tried Opera 10 and you know, it is really faster than Google Chrome. FYI, I use Google Chrome everyday as my main browser.

3. New User Interface (UI) Design
Opera has redesign the user interface totally. The design is created by Jon Hicks. For this feature, I tried resizable tab bar. You can look at this screenshoot below of my action.

4. Customizable Speed Dial
Now Opera allows us to do Speed Dial customization such as you can choose from 4 until 25 favorite website and you also can change the background with your favorite picture. Here is the screenshot

5. Another Features
Another great features are available like Inline Spell Checker for checking your misspelled word and Dragonfly web developer tools to help developer improve their coding of web development.

Actually, from those some features, I really got great experience using Opera 10. It is better than before. Now, for daily browsing, I use Opera and Chrome.
